Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer
About Us
Sensio is the leading provider of care technology in the Nordics, solving today’s and tomorrow’s care challenges for the benefit of service recipients, healthcare professionals, and society. We create sensors, systems, and platforms that radically improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare, empowering the sector to embrace technology and provide #MoreTimeForCare. Backed by Nordic Capital, one of Europe’s top private equity firms, we’re ready to take our flagship product, RoomMate, to the world.
RoomMate is a revolutionary safety sensor that detects and reduces falls using advanced algorithms. In addition, the sensor can be used for digital supervision and passive notifications in dangerous situations. Both hardware and software are developed in-house by the RoomMate team.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer to join the RoomMate team in Sandvika. You’ll play a pivotal role in the development, production, and evolution of the RoomMate sensor platform, responsible for translating functional requirements into robust and scalable hardware.
You’ll work as part of a cross-functional development team—closely collaborating with software, firmware, and product colleagues to ensure the seamless integration of hardware and software across the product lifecycle. From prototyping to production, you’ll contribute to delivering high-quality, real-world solutions that meet both technical and user needs.
This role will be based at RoomMate’s offices at Hamangskogen 60, Sandvika, with the flexibility to work occasionally from Sensio’s main office in central Oslo.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Translate product needs into hardware requirements and select suitable components.
- Design schematics and PCB layouts, balancing performance, power, and cost.
- Define interfaces (SPI, I²C, UART) and collaborate closely with software developers and firmware engineers.
- Set up test benches and validate designs using lab tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Maintain documentation, ensure compliance (EMI/EMC), and support production teams.
- Drive continuous improvement based on test and field feedback (including FMEA).
- Ensure lab equipment is functional, calibrated, and ready to use.
What We’re Looking for:
- PCB Layout & Design Tools – Expertise in circuit design(Altium365), simulation (e.g., SPICE), schematic capture, and DFM, with a strong ability to perform trade-off analysis for optimal design solutions.
- Embedded Systems Integration – Experience with communication protocols (SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet), and co-design with software for bootloaders, driver integration, and hardware-software interaction nuances.
- Testing, Debugging & Validation – Skilled in test setups and protocols; hands-on with oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers, etc.
- Compliance & Regulatory – Solid understanding of EMI/EMC design practices and the regulatory standards required for certification (e.g., FCC, CE).
- Self-driven & Detail-oriented – You possess an eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality outcomes, consistently ensuring your work meets the highest standards.
- Proactive Problem Solving & Collaboration – You take initiative in identifying and solving challenges while maintaining a collaborative mindset. You understand the value of raising issues when necessary and making decisions in alignment with the team to ensure the best outcomes.
In addition, it’s nice if you have:
- Experience working with thermal imaging or camera-based hardware to enhance sensor capabilities.
- Understanding of low-level Linux/firmware experience.
- Experience designing models for 3D printing.
- Familiarity with medical device regulations (MDR) or other highly regulated industries.
Benefits
- Meaningful work with purpose – making a tangible difference for healthcare personnel, patients, and next-of-kin.
- The opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing Norwegian tech company with global ambitions.
- A significant impact on the development of Sensio’s flagship product.
- A collaborative, user-centric, and innovative culture.
- Opportunities for professional and personal development.
- Competitive compensation, pension plan, and insurances.
